Institute for Local Government: Projects and Urban Entrepreneurship

The Institute leads several initiatives fostering creative ways of improving local government. Two current projects include:

The Coastal Cities Forum and Conference – The Institute manages and coordinates the work of the Forum of coastal municipalities in Israel, urban and rural, with the support of the Association of Local Authorities and the Association of Regional Councils. In its two years of operation, the Forum has made significant impact on policy making and national budgeting of coastal management, and serves as a platform for mutual learning and activity. Its activities thus far have included a large national conference, several smaller gatherings and an international workshop with visiting mayors from other Mediterranean coastal cities. The second National Coastal Cities Conference is planned for late 2017.

Child Friendly City – The Institute collaborates with UNICEF in the implementation of the Child Friendly City model in Israel. This international initiative promotes the agenda of children's rights at the municipal level, introducing designated strategies, policy tools and methodologies. A pilot project implemented in Rishon LeZion is presently in its evaluation phase and has produced impressive results.
