On May 12, we celebrated Europe Day with a festive ceremony as part of the unique, trilateral European Studies Master's program at Tel Aviv University. This program is being funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which is marking its 100th anniversary this year, with a guest professorship currently held by Dr. Frédéric Krumbein and the full-time lecturer Anne Gladitz.

Both have organized the event entitled "Security, Europe. Israel Calling", which resonates with the motto of the current Polish European Council Presidency, and conducted it with great professionalism.

The event was honored by high-ranking guests such as His Excellency Maciej Hunia, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Israel, and Her Excellency Helena Merks, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Israel. The Director of the European Studies Program, Prof. Tal Sadeh, also addressed the audience, which consisted of around 50 interested guests, mostly students from various disciplines, with some welcoming remarks.

The thematic contributions focused on relevant topics such as the Polish EU Council Presidency, current developments in relations between the EU and Israel, the deepening of German-Israeli cooperation and science diplomacy.

The atmosphere was beautifully complemented by the magnificent Gertler String Quartet of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, who performed works by Beethoven, Chopin, and an arrangement of “Ani ve Ata” by Arik Einstein.

In the presence of Europe Affairs expert and DAAD alumnae Dr. Esther Lopatin from Tel Aviv University, the event ended with a dynamic panel discussion on the political landscape in Europe, followed by informal networking and refreshments.

In this context, the team of the local DAAD Information Center, Natalia Suponitskaya and Assaf Bloom, also had the opportunity to present a variety of funding programs and provide guidance for studying and conducting research in Germany.

We would like to thank everyone who took part and made this celebration an informative and inspiring experience!
