פרופ' גץ היא אנתרופולוגית פוליטית העוסקת בלאומיות, מגדר ועבודה בגרמניה, ובמסגרת הסמינר היא תדבר על לאומיות ואזרחות בגרמניה לאחר 1989.

The rediscovery of the national (identity) in Germany after 1989

The main aim of this talk is to shed light onto different contexts in which the national question – of national identity/nationhood, citizenship – has been emerging and proliferating in Germany both in the wake of reunification and as a result of the increase of immigration. After 1989, the broadly shared societal consensus of postwar times has been broken up – the consensus of refraining from national notions, due to the Nazi past. Two concepts  of nationhood compete in politics, in public and in everyday life: the notion of “ethnos” and the notion of nationhood based on “demos,” which denotes a culture-blind concept of citizenship referring to individual rights as a full citizen in a state of law.
